Hair Extension Preparation...
On the day of the fitting please make sure your hair is washed, preferably with a
clarifying shampoo. A clarifying shampoo ensures all residues are removed. These
residues must be removed as they can affect the adhesion of the glue. Try to
leave your hair as natural as possible and do not apply any styling products.
Please come with your hair in its usual parting and straightened if possible. This
makes it easier to see where the bonds are going to be applied. Even if your own
hair has a natural wave as the hair is applied straight and it helps to see where
extensions are needed. Also try to wear a t-shirt or similar, not a hoodie or
anything which will not allow extensions to hang straight down your back. Ideally
hair needs to be long enough to put in a pony tail, even if it’s just a short stubby
one. However, extensions can be applied to shorter hair, but a consultation is
required because if hair is very short then some bonds may be visible.
If hair is thick it often helps if it is thinned out a little to make the extensions look
more natural, layers also help a lot. The worst hair for extensions to be applied to
is a short thick bluntly cut (bobbed) hair. If your hair is short then it is not advisable
to have very long extensions put in (over 16-18") as they don't look as natural.
The best hair for applying hair extensions is past shoulder length, fine or layered
hair. If hair is thick often having layers cut into your hair first can make the
extensions look a lot better, avoid having extensions put into hair which has a blunt
cut finish as mentioned above as a softer, layered cut will enable better blending.
Streaks and highlights are fine but it is important that the extension hair matches
the ends of your hair as this is the hair which lays over the extensions, so if the
root of your hair is different to the tip then it is very hard to match the colours
correctly. If you are sending a sample of your hair for colour matching then
please cut a good pinch from the ends of your hair, but not underneath as this hair
tends to be darker.
